Dialectical Behavior Therapy

Online & In-person in ohio

DBT is a form of therapy used to help individuals manage intense emotional experiences and interpersonal conflict.

Derivative of CBT, DBT emphasizes “dialectics,” encouraging people to hold two (sometimes conflicting) ideas simultaneously.  For example, maybe you are already doing the best you can and you also have things you want to work on. Or maybe you can identify that you want to be more independent and acknowledge that you also need support from the people around you. Using this balancing of ideas, DBT allows us both the relief of accepting where we are while also giving us space to work towards change.

With DBT, you can work with your therapist to address problem areas using skills to manage distress, improve relationships, and enhance your ability to tolerate emotions. DBT includes four modules:

  • Mindfulness

  • Interpersonal Effectiveness

  • Emotional Regulation

  • Distress Tolerance

This modality guides you through difficult experiences and provides you with the skills and tools you need to manage them.
